Maintech and DecisionOne

The first joint Executive Perspective issue features Frank W. D’Alessio and Tom York, presidents of Maintech and DecisionOne, respectively. DecisionOne, and its sister company Maintech, are both portfolio entities of Oak Lane Partners, a private equity company specializing in mid-market companies. In this interview, Frank and Tom share which distinct advantages emerge by operating as sister companies. With in-house infrastructure, including people, logistics and support, the combined entity has been able to add greater value to existing clients and deepen both domestic and international footprints. Both leaders also explore what it means to look toward horizontal expansion in a time where the majority of competitors are taking a vertical approach. 

Furthermore, Frank and Tom examine the driving forces behind increasing investor interest in the third-party maintenance market, of which Tom says is “more exciting than ever before.” As both share their thoughts on the effect of cloud on IT infrastructure providers, they also explore the role of private equity in achieving their goals. In particular, Frank says OLP is “investing for the long-term play to be the dominant player.” Closing the interview with advice that has influenced them in their long careers, Frank and Tom disclose how to succeed in this fast-paced industry.
